There where a few errors but they were easily over looked and didn't deture from the story line.

Wonderful characters, great word building, not a lot of plot especially in the second half.

I enjoyed reading this most of the way through, but the non-romance part of the plot was solved both suddenly and easily and depended on the villain being pretty bad at 'villain-ing'. As much as I enjoyed the characters, after the initial pretty extraordinary meet cute the love interests are so reassuring and reliable there really aren't any stakes.

The characters were colorful and fun to follow. I loved the story but wished there was a bit more to fill it out. Still is was a great way to spend 4 hours. Can't wait for more.

He was a Crisis Specialist, Interventionist, Court Evaluator and DUI instructor, Medical Social Worker, EAP Director, Consultant, Certified Hypnotherapist, and was in private practice for over 15 years. He brings a remarkably new view and approach to better manage this daunting and deadly problem. What a stunningly beautiful story!!

Vinny is nothing like what you would expect & everything you would want in a man!
He is funny, he is smart & he is the ultimate alpha male. He is also the good time guy.
Annalissa is beautiful and talented, she is also stronger than she realises. I don't think anyone realises just how much of a backbone she has until she is put to the test. She may also be the exact right woman to bring Vinny to his knees!

Maryann Jordan has once again demonstrated her talent in bringing the alpha male and the independent woman together and weaving a beautiful story with lots of twists & turns that you never see coming. The mystery in this book had me convinced I knew who the villain was right up until the end when I was proven dead wrong!!

The love and support of the whole Alvarez Security Team is as usual well placed & comes at just the right time. You can't help but think if all families were like this the world would be a happier place!!

What I love about this book as with all of Maryann Jordan's stories is that she writes so well that it is easy to escape into the romance of the story & its almost like you are watching it play out in front of you. You get to tune out to real life for a couple of hours & live in the world of someone else.

I absolutely loved Vinny, I loved Annalissa and I think Maryann Jordan has done a beautiful job bringing them both to life!! I can't wait to read the next instalment of this series!!

Loved It!

This is the third in the Alvarez Security series and my favorite so far. Vinny and Annalissa are opposite as can be but when circumstances throw them together their chemistry can not be denied. Vinny is hired to keep her safe and what started as a simple job turned into much more than he expected. This story is full of suspense, twist and turns and some steamy sex scenes as the two travel across the country trying to avoid danger and keep Annalissa safe. This book had me hooked from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat all the way to the end.

Vinny stole my heart!!

I have been waiting for the release of Vinny's book. Anyone who knows me realizes that I am a huge Maryann Jordan fan and love her Alvarez Security guys. Each of them have been great to read about, but a couple have stolen my heart more than others. One of these would be Vinny. Throughout the series, it is well documented that he is for all intents and purposes, a "man whore." Sorry, Maryann! But, it's true...he was commitment-phobic like a lot of guys are, but his was well and truly over the top. I kept wondering how such a good man and one that was so obviously thrilled his brother, Gabe, had found "the one" could be as shallow as he was in his private life. I hate that I'm making him sound so awful...just setting the stage for my review.

Once I got into the book, it became clear almost immediately why he acted the way that he did. His emotions were on lock-down due to a terrible experience that he had while in the army. He equated this incident not only to women, but to music as well. It was so sad that the trauma he experienced in the army took such a toll in his life and bore so much weight in his decision-making.

Having said all of that, I knew there was more to Vinny than just being a good time guy. There were flashes of it throughout the series and especially in Gabe's book. I think all along he secretly wanted what his brothers-in-arms had; he was just afraid to accept it or thought he didn't deserve it. He just needed to meet the right girl. And with all the new couples going on at Alvarez, I knew there was going to be some matchmaking going on. I just had no idea it would be Tony lol. We all know and love Tony, their commander in the army and boss at Alvarez, and I think he had been watching Vinny for a long time just waiting for the right time and the right assignment or should I say girl.

Upon hearing the assignment Vinny was given, I had a secret suspicion something was going on. I certainly didnt think it was going to be a sexy rock star, but neither did I think his assignment would be a fresh sweet-spirited harpist. I love how Maryann took almost the exact traumatic thing in Vinny's past and brought it full circle to heal him. I loved Annalisa from the instant we meet her in the story. She is exactly what Vinny needed from her lovely personality down to her virginal status. I know some might think that is cliche, but I just felt that he needed something to remind him of the sweetness of something new and good...and he was what she needed as well. With all of the people pushing her around, she needed his strength to stand up to all of them and make herself heard. I love their instant connection through music. Of course, I love Vinny's protectiveness of Annalisa and I especially admired that he realized she wasn't a weakling, but just had a quiet personality.

I don't want to give away the rest of the story, but there is a huge amount of suspense, some hot love scenes, but what is amazing is the love that these two share. They just balance each other out in every way. And I have to say that I love that Annalisa didn't shame Vinny because of his past like some women might have done. I could see that it was sometimes hard for her to deal with, but she dealt with it with grace like she did everything else. And Vinny, he just did anything possible to make her feel that she was the only one that he could see.

Maryann Jordan did a superb job with Vinny in every way imaginable. I felt like I knew both Vinny and Annalisa personally. In my opinion this is a strength of Maryann Jordan. She not only can write the love of a century, but she makes them seem like your best friends while doing it. I couldn't find any fault with this story, but then I usually can't anyway. I give Vinny 5 stars. Congratulations Maryann Jordan on another story very very well done!

Andrea and Raphael's story with Magic Bleeds answers

This is a fantastic, must read companion for any lover of the Kate Daniels series. It's Andrea and Raphael's story from the Must Love Hellhounds compilation, so if you've already read it there, this is the same story. If you haven't, it fills the gap between how they actually got together and to my surprise, it also provides some heavy insight into Curran and explains some of Kate's antics in Magic Bleeds... think apple pie and welding weight benches. If you've never read the Kate Daniels series, this would be an entertaining teaser, but you would definitely miss alot since it literally falls into a consistent timeline between Magic Strikes and Magic Bleeds.

While Kate is recovering after the events from Magic Strikes, best pal, Andrea Nash, closet beastkin hyena shapeshifter and Order Knight of Merciful Aid, is bored out of her mind covering for her, when she finally receives a call from a man named Teddy Jo who seems to be a friend of Kate's. He tells Andrea he saw a shapeshifter who's tail is on fire being chased by a giant dog as big as a house. Andrea springs into action bringing out the big guns, literally, to investigate, only to find that the shapeshifter in distress is Raphael, the werehyena who's been courting her, and the giant dog is actually a twenty foot tall, three headed mythological creature of Hades, Cerberus. Together, Andrea and Raphael get caught up in a mystery with vampires, missing bodies, an Angel of Death and magical apples.

This short story, like all of Ilona Andrews work, is simply incredible. Andrea is a bada$$ in her own right and you finally get to see her mettle here. The dialogue is as funny and witty as ever but the story goes deeper than mere physical attraction between Andrea and Raphael. As they spend time together and learn about one another, you really do see a cosmic relationship building. That, and the chemistry between them is explosive. Magic Mourns has everything you would hope and expect as part of the Kate Daniels series including tons of action and plenty of snark. Even with the absence of Curran and only a cameo appearance by Kate, this story is perfect in its own right. The ending is absolutely riveting and although it answers several questions, it raises even more to leave you panting for the next installment.

The first of the Magic novellas

In "Magic Mourns", which is a 90-page novella in the anthology "Hell Hounds", we get a POV from Andrea, Kate's friend as Kate is in the background due to the climax of Magic Strikes and Andrea gets to deal with the Order's problems as Kate's replacement. Andrea has not been able to get much outdoors action due to certain issues which were focused upon in Magic Burns [2nd Kate Daniels book]. She gets a call from out of town to investigate a three headed dog that seemed to be chasing a Pack animal.

She jumps onto this chance and on further investigation it turns out that the creature in question is none other than Ralph [the were-hyena who is smitten by Andrea]. The reason for him being chased has something to do with his mother Aunt B. the current Alpha for the Hyena clan & her mate. The tale then expounds as to what might be happening and why a certain three headed dog [whose mythological background you can easily guess] is hell bent upon his stay at a certain place.

This novella is set in the timeframe after the events of the third book and is a nice departure from Kate and we get to see more of Ralph & Andrea who seem to be another crazy couple in-the-making. The mythological aspect discussed in this tale is again a new one. The authors are doing a swell job of concocting their tales and utilizing different mythos to power their stories and yet developing links to enmesh them cohesively as a part of this series.

This novella serves as a nice sidebar to the Magic series and preferably will have to be read before the 4th book "Magic Bleeds" as some characters and the tale's ending bears minor ramifications in the next Book. Overall an "A" effort and a story not to be missed by fans of Ilona Andrews.

This is a great novella - excellent pacing and action, good meaty character development for fans of the series, and several really funny bits ... not to mention lots of naked Raphael.

And it's not a terrible place to get a quick taste if you're considering starting the series. Some of it would go over a new reader's head, but there is plenty of in-line context and the action and interpersonal parts stand fine on their own.

I am also impressed at how well Ilona Andrews managed to keep Andrea's voice distinct from Kate Daniels' despite the surface similarities between them. I never forgot that I was reading Andrea.

The best part of this novella, though, is the opportunity to see Andrea and Raphael working together. Between that and watching the two of them spar, we get more insight into both of their characters, plus a bit of backstory on Andrea.

And hey, naked Raphael.

Students and newly qualified staff make up much of the workforce delivering end-of-life care but, because end-of-life care can be both technically challenging and emotionally demanding, it is an aspect of nursing that can cause considerable anxiety.

This very accessible, straightforward book helps to allay those concerns and enables pre-registration students to prepare confidently for the challenges they will face when they are caring for dying patients and supporting their families. Each chapter is based on a different and realistic scenario - reflecting a range of circumstances - to demonstrate the essential generic knowledge and skills they need to develop, and draws out the important practical and theoretical issues students should consider and address if patients and their families are to receive the best possible care.

Written by two experienced palliative care lecturer/practitioners, and mapping closely to the NMC's 2010 domains, the book is tailored to the needs of student nurses working with adult patients. It explores the importance of their role in end-of-life care and how this interfaces with the roles of other multidisciplinary professionals involved in the care of their patients. It will also be helpful to students of other health-care professions and support newly-qualified health-care professionals working in adult health.
