Excellent Reference On Current Teaching Challenges

This was a text book for my now completed first education class, "The Diverse Classroom". We did not have to read the entire book, just Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 12, so I base my review on those chapers. This book is rich in detail on the challenges faced in contemporary classrooms. It is well written, and has very complete and thorough references. In addition to raising awareness of key issues, it provides many practical suggestions for application.

The other text book for the class was "Introduction to the Foundations of American Education" by James A. Johnson, et al. That book was not as good by comparison; it was much too preachy.

Eductional Psychology not boring?

This was course material for my course in Ed Psych as part of my Bachelors degree. Prejudice made me think it would be boring and uneventful. On the contrary I have found that it is well written, with clear examples and continuous and consistent internal referencing and clear examples. Mr. Slavin refers to "intentional teaching" throughout the text. The text and its setup has been cleverly pegged to this theory, leaving me with a thorough understanding of educational psychology for a starter in the field. This should be obligatory reading for any teacher, if not the ones I have had over the years who could have done myself and other students a favour by studying it before standing in front of a classroom.

A great book, even when one's required to buy it

I had to buy this book for one of my university's special education credential classes, but the book's a definite keeper. I find that I learned more about what I need to know to do my job from this one textbook than from all my other textbooks combined. At least that's what it seems like most days!

Thick fantastic collection of art from 1987 to present day

The original book is the Japanese edition イース THEアートブック released in 2013, and this English edition is from Udon.

There are lots to see considering that they packed artworks from the first game that released in 1987 to the latest one in 2012 which is Ys: Memories of Celceta.

Below's the full list of games included and it seems they left out Ys IV.

It's quite interesting to see the evolution of the game art over a period of two decades. They started out with traditional media art, then moved into digital painting, and the most recent ones have more anime style colouring.

In essence, it's a character design book. It feels like there are over a hundred characters. Miscellaneous art such as locations, props are few. Illustrations are wonderful. There are standalone character art, splash pages and some story scenes.

There aren't any commentary except for notes beside some artworks. Since the games are from so long ago, and there aren't any game summaries, you probably have to go to Wikipedia to get your memories refreshed.

Overall, it's a fantastic collection recommended to all Ys fans.

Decent art book for fans of the Ys series

I have had my eye on this book for a while now and decided to get one with a gift card I got as a birthday gift. I've played many of the Ys games throughout the years and have enjoyed them all. I remember my mom bringing me home one day a used copy of the Ys III: Wanderers from Ys game for the Super Nintendo back in the mid 90's or so. Back then I had no idea what this was and no clue there were other titles out there. We were mainly a Nintendo family back then. Wow, that game was tough and it pretty much just sat there. Glad I was able to play the redone version on the PC a few ago. Falcom has made some really great games.

The Good: The art in this book is done very well. You can tell how it has changed over the years and it all looks great. It's fun to look over the images of the games I've played in the past and definitely makes me want to do it again.

The Bad: I'm not happy with the order of the book. I wish they started with oldest to newest. I don't care about the timeline of the games which by the way I hate when writers go back to a time before their first game or movie but I won't stress over it much. 2 more criticisms I have. Where the heck is the 4th game? I would really like an explanation and I wish there was more explanation about each game, just something written by the artists and the creators of the games in the back of the book would have been nice.

Conclusion: Despite my criticisms I am still very happy with the book. It is definitely a must buy for the fans or really anyone. Good way to get someone who never played a game. I wish there were more materials out there but I will take what I can get. I even bought the The Ark of Napishtim guide by Bradygames a year ago just because it's an awesome game. It even had some art work in the back.

Just Buy It !!!

Some people collect stamps, coins, baseball cards or comic books. I don't do that. Instead, I collect all the best art books. If you collect art books like I do I would say definitely buy this one. The artwork is just amazing!!! If I could give this more than 5 stars, I definitely would. This really is a "must have book." I would recommend this to anyone reading this review.

I also own almost all the other Udon Entertainment art books and I would like to take the time to recommend them all. In my opinion Udon is just the best of the best. I don't work for them. I don't get paid by them. I'm just a fan of their art books.

A trip down memory lane

This tribute to a successful, driven businessman of the late 19th to mid 20th century, is told by family members who share their first hand recollections of the man, his ideas, and his publications. We read intimate details of the life of his large family, their homes, travels, children, hobbies (sports), friends, and personal tragedies. Mr. Collier began his career in the business office of a coal mine in West Virginia and from there spawned a direct mail order campaign that transformed the way business was transacted in those times. His sales pitches and techniques became hugely popular as did his books on his "positive" thinking ideas. He would wind up working in the family publishing company which was kept alive as a thriving enterprise by family members. He was interested in health foods, exercise, and put his family first. Parts of this book are devoted to his children's memories of life with their father and mother who maintained homes in New York and Florida. This would be of interest to readers who enjoy reminiscenses of that time period. My thanks to the author and Goodreads for a complimentary copy.

Lower, MD is Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Director, Pediatric Hospital Medicine Group in the Department of Pediatrics at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, Illinois. Dr. Lower is also a Year 4 Curriculum Director, the Pediatrics Clerkship Director, and Director of Undergraduate Pediatric Education at SIU School of Medicine.

Dr. Debra L. Klamen is Associate Dean of Education and Curriculum as well as Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Education at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (Springfield, Illinois). She is also a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at SIU.

Jody H. Lack, MD Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Pediatric Hospitallist in the Department of Pedicatics at Southerne Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, Illinois. Much of the discussion is on how state institutions like the civil service, the courts, the police, parliament, and regulatory institutions will need to be reconfigured to better adapt to changing circumstances.
