I spent little time with this book as it is best for someone who needs very elementary guidance, likely someone who does not have a developed or natural business sense or much business life experience. Might be a good guide for a hobbyist, as it is quite thorough, detailed, and explanatory.

Another Great Read

The Player and the Game is the second book in the Gibbons Gold Digger series by Shelly Ellis. After reading the author's first book, Can't Stand The Heat, I was eager to read this one as well. I will admit, it took some time for me to warm up to Stephanie Gibbons. Stephanie is a high class real estate agent who knows all the tricks to snag her man...at least she thinks she does until she is swindled by her current sugar daddy and left nearly broke.

Enter P.I. Keith Hendricks who has been tasked with chasing down Stephanie's swindler ex by one of his former victims. Humiliated and determined to get her money back, Stephanie forces Keith to take her along as they track down her ex. Along the way neither can ignore the attraction that they feel for one another and for the first time in her life, Stephanie fears she has fallen in love. Keith too has fallen hard despite his attempts to keep her at arms length. When the two finally track down Stephanie's ex, well all I can see is that I didn't see that one coming!

I thought the author did a great job illustrating all the hurdles to be faced as a person tries to change their life and be a better person. I also really loved how the hero, Keith talked to Stephanie, though harshly at times to get her to see what she'd been doing was selling herself short and for all the wrong reasons. The author did shed light on the reason that so many women have decided to stop risking their hearts in a relationship and see what they can get out of it instead. That brought a lot more depth to Stephanie and showed the real reason she'd chosen to live her life a certain way.

I really enjoyed this novel and I will be on the lookout for the next from this author, Another Woman's Man. 5 Stars.

I recently received a Goodreads first-reads copy of The Player & the Game by Shelly Ellis. This is book 2 in the author's Gibbons Gold Digger series. Although I had not previously read book 1 in the series, I did not find it affected my enjoyment of this book. Stephanie Gibbons has a new man in her life who gives her everything she wants - he treats her like a queen and buys her expensive things. Her new man, Isaac, is a con man, however. He empties her bank account and skips town. She finds out from a man who's been following her (P.I. Keith Hendricks) that Isaac has a history of conning women. Stephanie hires Keith to find Isaac so she can recover her money. Keith thinks Stephanie is as bad as Isaac, though, because his research shows that she uses men to get what she wants. Stephanie develops real feelings for Keith, but he thinks he's being played. The two fight their feelings for each other while they attempt to find Isaac. This book has a happy ending, and I enjoyed the read. The author told a fun and engaging story and I finished the book quite quickly.

In the second installment of the Gibbons Gold Diggers series, The Player and the Game by Shelly Ellis, Stephanie Gibbons just may have been beaten at her own game. Stephanie believes her new beau, Isaac is made of money since he treats her with nothing but the best. So, when Isaac proposes, Stephanie is all for it and can’t wait to plan her wedding until…

Stephanie tries to use the atm and is faced with a problem. She goes to her back to clear matters and finds out that she is broke. Stephanie is confused since she knows her account had funds. After a little investigating, Stephanie comes to the realization that Isaac had robbed her blind. Stephanie is furious and determined to find Isaac and her money. Stephanie can’t do this alone so who can she ask to help?

In walks an attractive man by the name of Keith Hendricks. Keith is a private investigator working for a woman who has been duped by Isaac. When he meets Stephanie to ask her some questions there is an instant attraction. The only problem is Stephanie wants to hire Keith too and will not take no for an answer. Will Keith listen to his conscience or will he give into his attraction?

The Player and the Game was an entertaining book about a bossy woman and a stubborn man. Stephanie is determined while Keith holds his ground. The back and forth between these two was comical. Both tried to ignore their attraction which made the story more entertaining. The adventure that surrounds these characters was exciting and will have readers turning the pages.

Jake Carlisle has been working for the last few years deep undercover in order to infiltrate a Russian mob organization. During this activity he tried to save a young Russian boy who witnessed a murder and has other important information that could lead to the imprisonment of the criminals. However, something goes wrong during the FBI operation to extract the young boy and Jake is shot. Needing medical care for himself and Nicholai but on the run from all the law enforcement agencies because he thinks that somebody has misinformed and misled them, Jake can't turn to any hospital or medical facility. The only solution is to kidnap somebody who has medical knowledge. The victim is Samantha Edgars, who is an ER nurse and on her way home. After her initial shock Samantha realizes that her kidnapper isn't a usual criminal and since she has already lost anything that is important in her life, she decides to help Jake.

Jake is an absolutely great male main character who has very pronounced protective feelings towards the weaker ones. Having experienced as a young boy what price his family had to pay for his father's undercover police work, he has decided that he has to stay a loner for the rest of his life. Well, when he decided that he didn't yet know Samantha and the feelings she would wake up in him.

Samantha on the other hand came with a lot of baggage. She lost everything that was dear to her and had actually taken a serious decision concerning her life at the day of her abduction. Her reactions during the kidnapping were very real and I could nearly relate to all of them. OK, there were some moments when I thought that some actions were beyond me but who knows how a person functions who made Samantha's experience in life and has taken the decision she took (sorry, can't really tell you more about this without spoiling!).

The story line was straight forward, without any twist and turns. However, the book was very entertaining and well written. Jake, Sami and Nicky were great main characters who supported the plot very well.

If you're looking for a nice and relaxed read I can but recommend this one to you.

Not only a romance, but great suspence story too. Once I got into the story, it was hard to put down. Would love to have a sequel to this book! Good read!

Thank you, for a good story line. So many of the romantic novels are just about the sex. This book was much more.
