To get through the week, Samantha will have to lean on her friends, face up to her ex-husband, and try not to get electrocuted by her own stun gun. Everything she holds dear will once again be threatened, and just when she thinks it’s all over, her world will be changed forever.

A wonderful third installment for this entertaining series

Samantha Rialto, our protagonist, has had a very bad few months. Sam and Maxie, her best friend, are looking for a place to live after their homes were destroyed. This housing search is proving to be an unpleasant endeavor. Adding to this stress is Sam's student, Violet. She comes to Sam asking for help. It seems Violet's father is missing, and she is determined to find him. Sam agrees to help and lines up Skipper Turnbuckle, a "questionable" PI, to help with the search. Violet's dad is in a whole lot of trouble with some very nasty people, and it takes Skipper, Sam, and `maybe' boyfriend, FBI agent Ben Parker to solve this mystery.

A Violet March is the third book in the Samantha Rialto series. Samantha, a music teacher who occasionally sidelines as a surveillance photographer for Skipper, is an entertaining character. She is sweet, kind, funny, and loves being a teacher. Being so nice tends to cause lots of problems for her. Maxie is a great character, and there is a wonderful bond between these two friends. I really enjoyed getting to know the adorable Olivia, Ben's sister.

Ms. Katy's website states that this book is "darker" than the previous two books. This is very true. Although most of the book is a fun, fast read, the ending is anything but. It took me by surprise--and not in a good way. For me, it was totally unexpected and made me very sad.

I do recommend these books. I've grown attached to these characters and look forward to seeing what happens to them next. This book can be read as a stand-alone but I urge you to read them in order. Character growth is important to me, and I find reading series books in order enables me to fully appreciate the characters.

Move over Janet Evanovich

This is the first time I've read the Stephanie Plum genre without feeling like I'm reading a rip off. Her writing is terrific. She knows how to develope a character! This is the 3rd in the series and I can't wait for more. I'll keep my fingers crossed that she doesn't fall into the same trap as Evanovich and have Sam, the main character, refuse to grow and keep her wonderful boyfriend at arms length.

It has been a loooong wait for the third book in this series and it doe not disappoint. Samantha is as good as ever and there are many laugh out loud moments as well as a touch of sadness. Please, Ms. Katy, don't make us wait as long for the fourth book and please let Sam find some well deserved happiness with Ben.

Never ending typos

The content in this book really isn't bad at all. It covers all the topics one would encounter in an advanced undergrad or first year grad course in optics. But content is only as good as it is trustworthy. The reason why I hate this book is that it is completely frustrating to follow derivations when they are laced with typos. Add to that frustration the frustration of working problems that are badly worded and reference figures that are different than what is described in the problem and you have a recipe for long nights of banging your head against a table. You'd think that they would've found most of the errors after the 1st edition, but they haven't.

I've only used two other optics books before, Hecht and Pedrotti & Pedrotti. Hecht is a nice, basic reference, but is not very advanced. It doesn't give you many details of what it describes. P&P is a pretty good book that I hated when I used it just because it often tried to describe in words some things that would be much clearer with a drawing. P&P and Klein and Furtak are aimed at a similar level, but for my money, P&P is the better choice if for no other reason that it's accurate.

A good book ruined by errors

This book is about the only one at its level: Significantly more in-depth than the classic by Hecht, but significantly easier than the brilliant but arduous work by Born and Wolfe. As such, it fills a niche that needs to be filled. It nicely covers all the main features of linear, classical optics at a level that is very useful for an advanced undergrad or beginning grad student in physics or engineering. Unfortunately, it is plagued by unaddressed errors. These make it downright dangerous to use as a reference. Caution must be used before applying equations found in this work. Although I learned out of it more than a decade ago, I have seen no sign of a corrected edition or a list of errata. This makes it impossible for me to recommend this book unless one reads it with pen in hand and a keen interest in rederiving each equation while marking-up ones copy.

Although now 70 years on, I still have vivid memories of my own experiences during this particularly cruel and difficult time. "Neighbours From Hell" is the story of how this event affected my family and tracks my journey from eastern Poland to Siberia and then beyond as events elsewhere dictated my destiny. Although written with just family in mind, I am happy to share my story with anyone interested.

Quite interesting

An extraordinary story of triumph over adversity, spanning life in rural pre war Poland, exile to Siberia and operations in the Polish army including the Monte Casino campaign. A very interesting perspective of Poland's tragedy. The war's outcome was no victory for these unfortunate troops on the winning side. Their homeland was occupied by the Soviet Union and a puppet communist government set up. Britain went to war over Polish independence but acquiesced to its absorption in the communist bloc. Britain at least stood by these stranded people and the author clearly had a happy life in his adopted country.

The book is unpretentious and interesting. It fills an information gap about this sorry aspect of this tumultuous part of 20th century history. Great book title, says it all.

A first hand account of a fascinating life

When Germany invaded Poland in 1939 from the West, the Soviets invaded from the East. First the Soviets bought everything there was to buy from stores emptying them completely. Then they rounded up all men and sent them to labor camps in Siberia. They sent women and children to work at collective farms in northern Kazakhstan. Julian was among those who were sent to Kazakhstan. His journey east and his escape, fighting as a soldier in the British army, and settling down in the UK is a heartfelt story of a generation. Although Julian and his family escaped communist Russia, the end of the war was bitter sweet: the part of Poland where he grew up became part of Russia. But he does not complain, he just tells the story as he remembers it. We are fortunate that people like Julian took the time to document their memories.

I'm utterly surprised and impressed by the new places and experiences of this Polish soldier...unlike any other...from Siberia to Israel to Scotland.

In Kashmir, a group of young women, all in their twenties, were inspired to reopen the Kunan-Poshpora case and revisit their history and that of the 1991 survivors. Do You Remember Kunan Poshpora? is a personal account of their journey, examining questions of justice, stigma, state responsibility, and the long-term impacts of trauma.
