About the Author
A professional guitar teacher for over 12 years, Joseph Alexander graduated from The Guitar Institute in London with a Diploma in Popular Music Performance. He continued his education at the prestigious Leeds College of Music achieving a BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies in 2002. Immediately following his graduation Joseph was awarded a bursary and internship writing music for the West Yorkshire Playhouse where he composed scores for three individual works. Music has taken Joseph all over the world. He has performed on little islands in Thailand and 100,000 ton ocean liners in the Caribbean. He currently lives in Poynton, England and is busy teaching a new wave of upcoming guitarists. He has often worked as a peripatetic teacher in Cheshire schools and at times has over 40 weekly private students.

An easy to understand book on Drop 2 chord voicings

This is the second book I have gotten from this author and I have to say he is an excellent writer. I am one of those people who really struggles to understand some of the basic theory behind jazz but he makes it simple and the examples he picks are just excellent. I'd say this book is pretty accessible. It would work for a keen beginner who has already mastered basic open chords all the way to an intermediate player such as myself who is more familiar with other genres but who has been developing an interest in jazz over time.
I highly recommend buying this if you are just beginning to learn about Jazz chords.

Well orgainized and laid out

This is the third book by Joseph Alexander I've purchased. So far, all of them have delivered, including this one. As with all his books, they start out with the basics, but soon move on to more advanced topics. This book provides a series of lessons, each starting the student off with various exercises. From here, you'll have to transpose them to all 12 weeks and do it in you head. At first, this can be a bit of a challenge; however, if you're ever going to ascend to next level as a musician and guitarist, this is a 'must-have' skill. Hope Mr. Alexander writes more books!

Like having a very good teacher on your Kindle.

The author's rock solid grasp of the theory of music, has really helped me to build my playing on solid ground, yet while the words 'theory' and 'dull' normally sit together, it doesn't apply here! It's hands-on, musical and fun.
I've bought a number of his books, and the variation in book themes (jazz, blues or technique) helps my practice sessions to remain varied, and therefore more interesting, the result being that I put in more playing hours.
I now pick up the guitar with much more enthusiasm than when I was just collecting licks, as I'm able to fit everything into the right place musically and transpose it when required. Each book is peppered with great advice and reminders on the right approach to take, when practicing so, the increased playing hours are more productive too!
Basically, they've given a lot more fuel to my lifelong passion for the guitar, and I'm very glad that I found them.
